Transportation Assistant

The Transportation Assistant's primary duties are to provide patient program support, program administration, administrative support, customer service to Veterans in the Travel Office. and perform other duties as assigned for the Business Office. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
Accurately determine and/or verify the beneficiary eligibility for travel at government expense according to rules and regulations when claims are presented by consulting the electronic record to ensure appropriateness for payment of claim. Arrange special mode transport for patients adhering to provider specifications of mode of transport and ensuring that mode is correctly denoted according to the patient's medical condition. Arranges and coordinates air ambulance travel for eligible veterans. Performs entitlement or post-entitlement work related to the examination of claims for transportation benefits. Ensures that the prompt payment act is followed in the payment/auditing of invoices. Maintains control of all folders and correspondence properly referred to activity until resolution of issues. Reports all adjustments and maintains accurate statistics for budget and workload purposes. Audits completed invoices and final certification prior to submission for payment. Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
To be creditable, this experience must have been gained to at least the equivalent of the next lower grade level of (GS-4) in Federal employment. Experience with customer service providing employee assistance such as making arrangements for official travel, assisting with information important to the employee during travel, resolving conflicts of a minor nature and advises supervisor of more serious and non-routine concerns for resolution, providing expert customer service, advice, assistance, and guidance to leadership and staff on complex and sensitive matters relating to domestic and international travel; assisting in all aspects of arranging travel for Leadership and staff, coordinating travel document requirements for domestic and international travel (to include assisting in the preparation of travel authorizations, and reviewing travel vouchers) with the appropriate entities, researching and conducting analysis of regulations and polices to address questions that arise with domestic and international travel and provides solutions to the questions; evaluating pertinent travel regulations and new or revised policies or directives from the General Services Administration (particularly the Federal Travel Regulation) and the Veterans Administration as it applies to the Organizations travel needs; generating reports regularly, interpreting data and processing requests for payments of official travel authorizations; performing final prepayment audit of all travel documents to ensure the accuracy of validity of monetary entitlements; and the skill in computing, and/or processes vouchers; maintaining travel files/records and produces reports or summarized information related to voucher and supporting documents. Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have at least 4 years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
