Accounting Technician

Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintains accounts and accounting transactions via accounting and financial systems. Processes transactions to include purchase orders, deposits, debit vouchers, returned checks, and travel card requests. Researches and analyzes discrepancies to determine corrective actions to adjust accounts. Assists accounting supervisor by training employees and customers to use financial and accounting systems. Adheres to security precautions are to protect sensitive data. Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level and for a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 level.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-06 Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Utilize various agency computer systems and software to cross reference accounts or records Analyzes and reconciles accounts, records or documents for discrepancies Knowledge of a wide variety of interrelated steps and procedures required to assemble, review and maintain transactions or processes Prepares and submits required reports, both internally and externally Accurately and thoroughly performs essential data analysis management GS-07 Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Prepares and analyzes accounting and financial reports Interprets and applies accounting and financial regulations, polices and procedures Utilizes accounting principles, basic bookkeeping techniques and various accounting/financial systems Processes deposits, purchase card orders, obligations, payments, collections Performs cash disbursement, receipt functions, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable transactions Analyzes and reconciles accounts for discrepancies You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work is principally sedentary and may require some physical effort, such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting and lifting of objects such as files or cash boxes (not to exceed 25 lbs.). Manual dexterity is required in operations of office machines. Near the end of each month, quarter and fiscal year there are stringent deadlines which must be met due to the accounting period closing and the system downtime for report generation. This tends to put pressure on the employee, which can physical and psychological stress and fatigue. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
