Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist

Major Duties:
Establishes specific goals, objectives and projects. Organizes work to achieve approved goals. Work will be reviewed by the supervisor to evaluate the following:
adherence to designated policies and procedures; ability to deal with new, unusual and ongoing changes; ability to coordinate activities with other programs and effectiveness in interpersonal relationships. In addition, the supervisor will conduct spot checks to evaluate the incumbent' s progress. Collects and organizes data on veterans served as required by North East Program Evaluation Center (NEPEC) and the program manager/medical center management. Provides service to individuals whose employability or job adjustment is impaired by a physical, mental, emotional, or other disability; or by a lack of basic education and job skills. Ascertains the training requirements to meet the training objective, coordinates with various resources to find, evaluate and select a training facility, and sets up or negotiates a training program. Determines the vocational goals and objectives of the client. Determines the extent to which the client possesses the knowledge, skills or abilities necessary to meet the goals or objectives. Analyzes the skill requirements and on-the-job demands to estimate the probable success that the impaired individual will have in completing the program. Coordinates with various resources to locate employment in the community that will be specifically suitable from the standpoint of the particular needs and problems of the individual. Maintains day-to-day contact with potential employers, placement personnel, or other likely placement resources. Visits the site and determine facility modifications, client's prosthesis, or adjustments to the employer's machinery to accommodate the client's significant limitations. Counsels and guide employee through difficult transition or rough spots in the adjustment to the job. Helps the employer understand the nature of the client's limitations while maintaining a positive impression of the client's capability to succeed. Ensures client's pay and benefits are equitable in terms of the going rate for other workers in the same field of work. Performs other duties assigned. Work Schedule:

To qualify for this position at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience:
You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
Work that required obtaining and applying occupational information for people with disabilities, knowledge of the interrelationships of the involved professional and specialist services, and skill in employing the methodology and techniques of counseling to motivate and encourage individuals served by the program; Experience that demonstrated knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation problems characteristic of the disabled, including familiarity with available resources and skill in identifying, evaluating, and making effective use of such resources to serve individuals with disabilities; or of the disadvantaged, including knowledge of adjustment problems of the educationally or culturally disadvantaged, familiarity with available adult education and training resources, and ability to recognize problem areas needing special attention; Experience in vocational guidance or teaching in a recognized vocational rehabilitation program or school, developmental or supervisory work in programs of vocational rehabilitation or training programs for the disadvantaged, or personnel or employment placement work that provided extensive knowledge of the training and adjustment requirements necessary to place persons having disabilities or social adjustment problems. NOTE:

(Unofficial Transcript Required) Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in vocational rehabilitation, vocational or educational counseling, or other fields related to the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist position. NOTE:
Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR- Combination:
(Unofficial Transcript Required) Equivalent combinations of successfully completed progressively higher level graduate education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist position. NOTE:

Experience:

Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. -OR- Combination:

Only education in excess of a master's degree (excess of 2 years) may be combined with experience to meet this requirement. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
