Registered Nurse- Patient Safety Infection Control
The Patient Safety Infection Control Registered Nurse influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation, unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives, as well as customer service programs. Oversight for the VHA and facility requirement in alignment with VHA Patient Safety Program and Infection Control Program. Duties include but are not limited to:
Identifying risk and analyzing an organization's exposure to loss. Examines alternative risk technique, select best technique, implements, monitors and makes any necessary changes Collaborates with other disciplines. Provides leadership and coaching in the application of processes/systems changes to improve outcomes at the program and/or service level. Functions as the point of contact for infection control policies and activities Assists to build and implement patient infection control systems and promote the culture of safety within VA facilities and for VA patients in all healthcare settings. Conducts active surveillance to identify and reduce risk of acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, employees, visitors and students. Disseminates patient safety alerts and lessons learned regarding effective system modifications from other facilities Completes Proactive Risk Assessments, RCAs and implementing practices that have been shown to be effective in preventing adverse events. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. The VA Medical Center is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and mental health inpatients and outpatients. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
