Position Summary The Pharmacy Support Person assists Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians by performing duties associated with the practice of pharmacy, as authorized by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners.
Promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization.
Job Duties/Performance Expectations Performs cleaning of IV compounding rooms and anterooms in compliance with regulations, including maintaining documentation of the cleaning tasks.
Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge USP guidelines, healthcare cleaning/disinfecting/deactivating principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, proper and safe Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, and equipment handling.
Adheres to all organization safety, risk management, infection control, and information privacy guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety and adherence to the Code of Conduct.
Communicates with Environmental Services to maintain an appropriate supply of cleaning agents and equipment to perform cleaning activities.
Assists in the ordering and receiving of medications and supplies from a variety of drug vendors including processing and preparing wholesale drug orders, submitting orders, receiving orders and invoices, processing drug deliveries, reconciling products received with packing slips or invoices and applying tracking labels or devices to various medications in a manner consistent with scope of practice.
Helps procure drugs and supplies from local hospitals and community pharmacies.
Assists with inventory counts and checking out-dates of medication stock.
Assists with maintaining a clean, uncluttered, and organized pharmacy environment.
Completes and files paper work in an organized manner.
Assists with reporting processes of various regulatory and performance improvement activities.
Answers telephone calls to the pharmacy consistent with scope of practice and in alignment with message-taking expectations.
Delivers medications to patient care areas excluding the stocking of automated medication distribution system components.
Includes delivery of medication samples to clinic locations as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent experience.
An associate degree, preferred.
1 year of hospital pharmacy experience, preferred.
Certification(s), Licensure(s) & Registration(s) Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners as a Pharmacy Support Person, required before start date.
